Meow you’re talking! Cat love at Florida's DeLand Cat Cafe

I'm a total cat purr-son so this building full of feline love made my day.

Happy Cat Month! In honor of this feline-themed September, we're starting off the month with a trip to the DeLand Cat Café in DeLand, Florida.

You don't eat at the DeLand Cat Cafe. That happens next door at Trilogy Coffee, which serves up delicious breakfast and lunch from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays.

What the DeLand Cat Cafe in Central Florida serves up is feline love.

In spades.

Florida's DeLand Cat Cafe

The DeLand Cat Cafe works with several local rescues in West Volusia County, Florida. They house them in a cafe-free environment, sometimes heal them if the need arises, and gets them ready for furr-ever homes.

The "cafe" consists of an enclosed kitten room for the kittens' safety, like the adorable two kittens at the top of the blog post, and two rooms that resemble living rooms, complete with sofas, chairs, cat toys and walls full of climbing apparatuses. In the back are spaces for the cats to escape to if they feel stressed, and, of course, the requisite kitty litters. Visitors may come and enjoy the many felines running around and use the toys to engage some fun.

On the day I visited, I loved on some adorable kittens, black cats, tortoiseshell cats—even a grumpy gray guy poised high above us not wanting to be part of the action (but still very sweet as they all are). It's a lovely space, with the cats happy, healthy and looking for homes.

August is Clear the Shelters Month so if you're thinking of adopting a cute kitty and you're close to central Florida...just saying.

To visit, it's best to call ahead and make reservations. Walk-ins are allowed but not guaranteed since only a certain number of visitors can come in at one time. Best idea is to enjoy a meal or craft coffee at Trilogy, then head over for the feline action. Or maybe the other way around.

The DeLand Cat Cafe is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. For more information, check out the DeLand Cat Cafe on Facebook.

Coming up next week for National Cat Month is the American Museum of the House Cat in western North Carolina!
